Sophia is a Pakistani American movement artist & vocalist who thrives on being inverted & immersed in nature. Over the years she has been exploring diasporic longing, ritual & memory housed in the voice. Her movement training stems from contemporary dance, contact improvisation & capoeira.
She completed her first professional dance program at the age of 26 studying Contemporary Dance & Creation at Area Dansa in Spain (2023). She holds a B.A. in International Studies + Environmental Studies from UNCA (2018).
Her choreography has been presented by Shaking the Tree Theatre, Ten Tiny Dances, Performance Works NW, Stripart Festival & Choreoscope Dance Film Festival.
Find her at capoeira rodas, teaching soft acrobatics, at contact jams, filming site-specific dances and working with multicultural youth.
